Kolkata: Amid growing internal tensions in the Trinamool Congress (TMC), party chief Mamata Banerjee launched a sharp attack on rebel leaders, saying the party is “better off” without those indulging in anti-party activities, hours after two MLAs were expelled.

She said the party is “not for its leaders but for its workers,” adding that individuals who leave during difficult times are not essential for the organisation’s future.

‘TMC better off without them’

Banerjee said the party would move forward without those she described as opportunistic leaders.

According to her, the Trinamool Congress would “rebuild anew” and emerge stronger despite internal challenges and defections.

Her remarks come at a time when the TMC is reportedly facing internal disagreements following its electoral setbacks and rising factional tensions.

She accused certain leaders of switching loyalties after enjoying positions of power, intensifying the political war within the party.

Allegations against opposition government

Banerjee also targeted the state government led by the opposition, alleging intimidation of TMC workers and vandalism of party offices.

She further claimed that attacks were being carried out against party leaders, including her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, and raised concerns over law and order in the state.

In her statement, Banerjee also referred to alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, urging students to raise their voices against discrepancies.

She said students are the “spine of society” and called for awareness and protest over examination-related concerns.

Mamata Banerjee’s strong remarks highlight escalating tensions within the TMC as the party deals with internal dissent and political challenges. While she has dismissed rebel leaders as unnecessary, the crisis signals continuing instability within the party’s organisational structure.
