Washington DC: Lockheed Martin, the American aerospace and defence giant, has reaffirmed its strategic partnership with India, underscoring its role in strengthening India's military capabilities. The company’s statement comes after US President Donald Trump announced plans to provide India with F-35 stealth fighters.
"Lockheed Martin has been a trusted and strategic partner to India for over three decades and has played a pivotal role in establishing the foundation of the aerospace and defence ecosystem," the company said in an official statement. It highlighted its commitment through various production programs, including the C-130J transport aircraft, S-92 helicopter cabin production, and fighter wing manufacturing, which are now integral to the global supply chain.
The company expressed enthusiasm over the F-35 deal, viewing it as a significant milestone in India-US defence cooperation. “We are encouraged by the recent announcement by President Trump to provide the F-35 to India. We look forward to working closely with both governments on upcoming strategic procurements, including the fighters, Javelin missiles, and helicopters that will empower the Indian Armed Forces with 21st-century security solutions and deterrence capabilities,” Lockheed Martin stated on X.
The Javelin missile system, co-developed by Lockheed Martin, is a state-of-the-art anti-tank weapon that has seen combat success across multiple theatres. Its inclusion in India's defence arsenal would enhance India’s tactical strike capabilities.
Lockheed Martin has already been involved in Make in India initiatives, contributing to local manufacturing and technology transfers. Its fighter wing production facility in Hyderabad is a key example of India’s growing role in global aerospace supply chains. With India gearing up to modernise its air force and defence systems, Lockheed Martin’s expanding collaboration on fighters, missile systems, and helicopters further cements its position as a key defence partner in India’s strategic growth.
