Prayagraj (UP): The Kumbh Mela, set to begin on January 13, 2025, in Prayagraj, is expected to attract around six crore pilgrims via train, according to Indian Railways. To accommodate this massive influx, 13,000 train services will be operated over 45 days to and from Prayagraj and nearby stations. This marks one of the largest logistical preparations in Indian Railways' history.

An expenditure of Rs 1,865 crore has been allocated for various infrastructural upgrades to enhance rail connectivity. This includes the doubling of tracks across the Ganga River. Officials estimate a total of 45 crore pilgrims will attend the Mela.

30,000 cameras to monitor crowds

To monitor crowds, 30,000 CCTV cameras have been installed across nine key railway stations and major locations in the city. Infrastructure improvements include ten road overbridges across Uttar Pradesh, track doubling and electrification on the Jhusi-Prayagraj route, underpasses, and upgraded passenger facilities at six railway stations, including Prayagraj.
