Delhi’s iconic Khan Market is getting a new look with granite walkways, a 300-metre pedestrian path, and upgraded infrastructure aimed at making shopping smoother and more comfortable.

New Delhi: One of Delhi’s most premium shopping destinations, Khan Market, is set for a noticeable upgrade as authorities plan a series of infrastructure improvements aimed at making walking easier and reducing everyday disruptions in the busy commercial hub.
The focus of the revamp is simple, better pedestrian movement, cleaner surroundings, and a smoother shopping experience for visitors.
What’s changing in Khan Market?
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is planning to develop a dedicated walkway around the outer circumference of Khan Market, stretching nearly 300 metres. This comes after a pilot project already underway on the front side of the market.
On the front stretch, work is already in progress with granite cobblestones being laid, and officials expect it to be completed in the coming weeks.
Officials said the new walkway is likely to use granite cobblestones or 2.5-inch-thick granite blocks, designed for durability and easier movement for the heavy daily footfall the market sees.
Explaining the broader vision, NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal said the upgrades are aimed at improving the overall experience in one of Delhi’s most iconic retail hubs.
The idea, officials said, is not just cosmetic improvement but a long-term infrastructure model that enhances usability while maintaining the market’s premium feel.
Along with pedestrian upgrades, work is also underway to redesign the middle lane of the market. The goal is to reduce the need for frequent road digging in the future, especially for utility repairs.
This is expected to significantly cut down disruptions for both shopkeepers and visitors, who often face inconvenience due to repeated maintenance work.
To maintain the market’s appearance, night-time washing and deep cleaning operations are being carried out regularly. Authorities say these measures are part of a larger push to keep the area clean, functional, and visitor-friendly.
