Srinagar:  Late Friday night, a massive explosion rocked the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, leaving nine dead and multiple others injured. Officials confirmed that the blast occurred while police officers and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team were inspecting explosive material recently recovered from Faridabad as part of a white-collar terror module investigation.

The site of the blast was immediately secured by the police, and emergency services rushed the injured to nearby hospitals. Among the casualties are police personnel and forensic officials engaged in the inspection process.

The Jammu & Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat visited the site on Saturday morning to oversee relief and recovery operations. He addressed the media to provide further details about the incident and confirm that preliminary investigations indicate the explosion was accidental. Authorities have asked the public not to speculate about the cause of the blast.

The Nowgam explosion comes days after a Hyundai i20 vehicle exploded near Delhi’s Red Fort, killing at least ten people. Investigators have reportedly found a link between the two incidents, as both involve the same white-collar terror module under probe in Faridabad. The explosive material being handled at Nowgam police station was part of the cache recovered during operations last week.

Police have assured that a detailed investigation is underway and that all safety protocols will be reviewed to prevent similar incidents during the handling of seized explosives.
