Gaya (Bihar): In a tragic incident reported from Gaya district of Bihar, Sushma Devi, the granddaughter of Union Minister and Gaya MP Jitan Ram Manjhi, was allegedly shot dead by her husband at their residence in Tetua village on Wednesday.
According to the police, the fatal shooting occurred while Sushma was at home along with her children and sister Poonam Kumari. However, no official statement has yet been released by Manjhi, who serves as the Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and is the founder of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), an NDA ally in Bihar.
As per sources, Ramesh, Sushma’s husband, returned from Patna around noon and a verbal altercation broke out between the couple. During the heated exchange, Ramesh allegedly drew a country-made firearm and shot Sushma before fleeing the scene.
Hearing the gunshot, Poonam and Sushma’s children, who were in another room, rushed to find Sushma in a pool of blood. She died on the spot.
Local residents, alarmed by the sound of gunfire, arrived at the house shortly after the incident.
Sushma worked as a "Vikas Mitra" under the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission, playing a role in linking the state government with grassroots communities for development projects. Her husband Ramesh is employed as a truck driver in Patna.
Sources close to the family revealed that Sushma and Ramesh, who belong to different castes, were married 14 years ago.
