Jaipur: A Class 6 girl died after falling from the fourth floor of a private school in Jaipur on Saturday, police said.

The deceased, identified as Amaira, was a single child studying at Neerja Modi School in the Mansarovar area. According to police, she was rushed to a nearby hospital after the fall, where doctors declared her dead.

“Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide,” officials said, adding that CCTV footage from the premises is being examined to determine the sequence of events.

The incident has sparked outrage after an education department team sent to investigate alleged that the school management refused to cooperate.

A spokesperson for the Joint Parents Association, Abhishek Jain, claimed that Amaira was distressed by a teacher’s behaviour before taking the extreme step. “We have spoken to many students. It has come to light that the girl jumped from the fourth floor after being scolded by a teacher. However, the school administration destroyed evidence by cleaning the spot,” Jain alleged.

Following the tragedy, School Education Minister Madan Dilawar ordered an on-site inquiry and directed officials to visit the school. However, the six-member team reportedly faced obstruction from the school authorities.

“Neither the principal nor any school representative met us. The main gate was locked from inside, and even the staff did not respond when we knocked repeatedly,” said Ram Niwas Sharma, District Education Officer (Elementary). He added that the team arrived at the school around 3 pm but was denied entry despite waiting for more than an hour and a half.

“We kept waiting at the gate. We tried to inform the principal, but no one came forward. Such non-cooperation will invite strict action,” Sharma said, noting that the department is considering cancelling the school’s recognition. Police officers, including Mansarovar SHO Lakhan Khatana, were present when the team reached the site.

Expressing concern over the incident, Minister Dilawar said, “It seems there were no adequate security arrangements at the school. I have asked the district education officer to submit a detailed report. Action will be taken if negligence is found.”

Forensic experts have collected samples from the scene, and a post-mortem examination was conducted at Jaipuria Hospital, where Amaira’s parents were present.

The school management has not yet issued any statement regarding the incident.
