Sivaganga (Tamil Nadu): Amid the intensifying heat of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi has offered a calculated and diplomatic take on actor-turned-politician Vijay’s high-stakes decision to contest from two constituencies.

Speaking in Sivaganga on Thursday, Kanimozhi refused to join the chorus of critics who have labeled the move a sign of electoral fear. Instead, she characterised the dual candidacy of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief as a testament to his self-assurance.

"Vijay contesting in two constituencies reflects his confidence and the confidence of his party. I do not wish to criticise that," Kanimozhi stated.

Vijay, who is making his political debut in the April 23 polls, filed his nomination for the Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) East seat on Thursday, following his earlier filing for the Perambur constituency in Chennai. While some opposition candidates—including the DMK’s own incumbent in Trichy East—have suggested the move stems from a "lack of courage”, Kanimozhi maintained a more professional distance, focusing instead on the DMK's own "Dravidian Model" of governance.

The DMK leader expressed unwavering faith in her party’s return to power, citing five years of industrial growth and welfare schemes for women and students.

"Therefore, I strongly believe that victory for the DMK is assured," she said, adding that "people want the government to continue because the development, the growth, and the GDP are in an upward trend."

Kanimozhi also addressed the delay in the Congress party's candidate list, attributing it to the poor health of Sonia Gandhi and assuring that the announcement would be made shortly.
