In a major development, Indian Railways has announced significant changes to the train ticket booking rules. These changes will specifically affect the advance train ticket booking process.

According to the order, the new rules will come into effect from November 1, 2024. With this, passengers will now be able to book IRCTC train tickets only 60 days in advance of the train’s scheduled departure, as opposed to the current advance booking period of 120 days.

The Order:

It has been decided that, effective November 1, 2024, the existing time limit for advance reservations for trains will be reduced from 120 days to 60 days (excluding the date of journey) as detailed below:

1) With effect from November 1, 2024, the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) will be 60 days (excluding the day of journey), and bookings will be adjusted accordingly. However, all bookings made up to October 31, 2024, under the previous ARP of 120 days will remain intact.

2)  Cancellations of bookings made beyond the new ARP of 60 days will be permitted.

3) There will be no change for certain daytime express trains, such as the Taj Express and Gomti Express, where shorter advance reservation periods are currently in place.

4) The limit of 365 days for foreign tourists will also remain unchanged.
