Astana: An Indian medical student was killed, and two others were injured, on Tuesday when a vehicle carrying a group of students on an excursion crashed in eastern Kazakhstan, according to the Indian Embassy.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Mili Mohan, a student at Semey Medical University. The group of 11 students was returning to Oskemen City from a trip to the Altai Mountains when the accident occurred.

"In a tragic accident in Oskemen, a group of 11 Indian students from Semey Medical University, who were on an excursion trip to the Altai Mountains (East Kazakhstan), encountered an accident on their way back to Oskemen City," the embassy said in a statement on X.

Two other students, Ashika Sheejamini Santhosh and Jaseena B., sustained injuries in the crash and are currently being treated at City Hospital No. 1 in Oskemen. Embassy officials reported that both remain in stable condition.

The diplomatic mission expressed its "deepest condolences to the family of the deceased student" and stated that staff are in "constant contact" with the university’s administration, hospital officials, and the families of those involved.

The incident is the second fatal road accident involving Indian medical students in Kazakhstan this month. On Jan. 6, three students from South Kazakh Medical Academy died in a separate crash near Almaty.
