New Delhi: The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) on Friday honoured two Bactrian camels, two Zanskari ponies, and two canine warriors for their exceptional contribution to operations in some of India’s most challenging deployment areas.

The Bactrian camels, deployed in the cold deserts of Ladakh, have been instrumental in high-altitude logistics, carrying heavy loads across rugged terrain and steep gradients in areas like Galwan and Nubra.

The Zanskari ponies, an indigenous and endangered breed, have consistently supported troops in Siachen Glacier and other forward areas, demonstrating unmatched endurance in icy conditions.

The canine warriors, named Zadie (Belgian Shepherd) and Disco (Labrador), were recognised for their role in surveillance, tracking, and operational support, helping safeguard personnel and strengthen operational effectiveness across diverse terrains.

The felicitation highlighted the loyalty, service, and resilience of these unsung heroes, who continue to stand alongside Indian Army personnel in the service of the nation.
