The government says a thorough probe is essential as calls for impeachment grow

New Delhi: New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday admitted a notice seeking the removal of High Court judge Justice Yashwant Varma and announced the formation of a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the allegations against him.
Addressing the House, the Speaker said the process for Justice Varma’s removal should commence, citing the serious nature of the charges. The decision follows a recent incident where a large sum of cash was reportedly recovered from the judge's residence.
The panel will include Supreme Court judge Justice Aravind Kumar, Chief Justice of Madras High Court Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, and senior advocate of the Karnataka High Court, B V Acharya.
“The committee will submit its report as early as possible. The proposal for Justice Varma’s removal will remain pending until the inquiry committee’s findings are received,” Birla stated.
