Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the alleged murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has told the Supreme Court that she is innocent and has been falsely implicated in the case.

In an affidavit filed before the apex court, Sonam contended that the prosecution has failed to produce any direct evidence linking her to the crime and that its case rests largely on assumptions.

She argued that there is no credible material establishing her involvement in the alleged conspiracy.

The affidavit was filed in response to the Meghalaya government's petition seeking cancellation of the bail granted to her by the Meghalaya High Court. The state has argued that the High Court wrongly granted bail despite the gravity of the charges.

Opposing the plea, Sonam urged the Supreme Court to uphold the High Court's order, stating that she has cooperated with investigators throughout the probe and has strictly adhered to all the conditions of her bail. She also maintained that her release has neither affected the investigation nor obstructed the judicial process.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court declined to send Sonam back to jail, although it expressed reservations over certain observations made by the High Court while granting bail.

Noting that she had already been released, the apex court chose not to stay the bail order at that stage.

The case stems from the alleged murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was recovered in Meghalaya during the couple's honeymoon.

Investigators allege that Sonam conspired with others to orchestrate the killing, a charge she has repeatedly denied. The investigation and trial are currently underway.
