Kolkata: Renowned personalities, including actress Shabana Azmi, musician Shankar Mahadevan and former Indian tennis player Leander Paes, were bestowed with honorary doctorates by Techno India University (TIU) in Kolkata on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Shabana Azmi shared her joy on Instagram, expressing her happiness at receiving the honorary doctorate in the presence of former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. Her post garnered numerous congratulatory messages, including a comment from actor-director Farhan Akhtar and appreciative emojis from actor Shibani Dandekar.

Expressing his gratitude, Shankar Mahadevan said, "This is a very special day for me. I am deeply grateful and honored to receive this Doctorate from Techno India, a prestigious institution." He further emphasised the responsibility that comes with the honor, stating, "It motivates me to work harder in the field of music—not just for entertainment but to use music as a tool for the betterment of humanity and to address various social causes."

Mahadevan delighted the students by performing a song from the film 'Lakshya.' (Agencies)
