Gujarat: A trainer aircraft belonging to a Delhi-based private aviation academy crashed in Amreli, Gujarat, around 12:30pm on Tuesday, resulting in the death of the pilot.
The aircraft took off from Amreli airport and crashed shortly after, reportedly hitting a tree before crash-landing in an open plot near Shastri Nagar. The impact triggered a fire, but no other injuries were reported.
According to Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kharat, the pilot was flying solo during the crash. Preliminary reports suggest unknown technical issues may have caused the accident. The aircraft's descent in an open space likely prevented further casualties. Police have launched an investigation and registered a case of accidental death.
Eyewitnesses and police reports suggest the plane clipped a tree and came down in an open plot near the Shastri Nagar locality. The crash site caught fire, but thanks to the location, no civilian injuries or property damage occurred beyond the loss of the aircraft.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and local police began investigations. Authorities have initiated an accidental death case and are probing technical and operational factors behind the crash.
