A Gen Z employee’s emotional reaction after allegedly having her leave cancelled at the airport has gone viral, triggering a heated debate about work-life balance and workplace boundaries.
In a widely shared video, Simran claimed she had informed her manager about her travel plans weeks in advance. She said there were no objections at the time. However, while waiting at the airport to board her flight, she received a message stating that her leave had been revoked due to an urgent deployment requirement.
According to Simran, the sudden reversal left her shocked and frustrated. She described the situation as a breakdown in communication and said it showed a lack of respect for employees’ personal time.
While acknowledging that emergencies can arise in any workplace, she argued that last-minute demands should not consistently override pre-planned personal commitments. In the video, she added, "I don’t earn because I love work or I’m a workaholic, but because I want to travel and enjoy freedom...Firstly, I listen to my family, not you. What would you do? Escalate the matter? Do it, I will find another job. I am not scared of that."
“To hell with the company or project. I am going. I will open my laptop only after 10 days. I don't care,” she concludes.
The clip quickly gained traction across social media, with thousands reacting to the incident. The viral office story has since turned into a broader discussion about leave policies, corporate culture, and employee rights.
Many users supported her stance, saying employees are entitled to set boundaries and prioritise their personal lives. They argued that if leave was communicated in advance, managers should ensure backup arrangements instead of cancelling at the last minute.
Others, however, questioned whether the leave had been formally approved.
