Guwahati: The Assam police, on Monday registersed an FIR against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia also known as Beerbiceps, comedian Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija and YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani for promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion in a show titled ' India's Got Latent'.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also confirmed the same in a social media post on X.

Guwahati Crime Branch has registered a case under sections - 79/95/294/296 of BNS 2023, Sec 67 of IT Act, 2000, Section 4/7 of Cinematograph Act 1952 and Section 4/6 of ⁠Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 .

The controversy erupted after remarks made by Allahbadia during a YouTube episode of 'India's Got Latent' were deemed offensive and derogatory.The comments, which were made in a joking context, sparked widespread outrage. 

Earlier a complaint was filed with the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women's Commission in which the complainant alleged that the show used abusive language and made obscene remarks about women. The complaint stated that the remarks were made to gain popularity and financial benefit through online broadcasts.

Ranveer Allahbadia issues apology

In response to the backlash, Allahbadia released an apology video on X on Monday, admitting that his remark was inappropriate and not funny.

"Comedy is not my forte. Just here to say sorry," said Allahbadia, who is popularly known as BeerBiceps.

He acknowledged the criticism from his audience and political figures, stating, "Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform. Obviously, this is not how I wish to use my platform. I am not going to give any context, justification or reasoning behind whatever happened. I am just here for an apology. I, personally, had a lapse in judgement. It wasn't cool on my part."

The influencer, who has been accused of setting a bad example for young viewers, also stressed that he takes responsibility for his actions.
