Pune: In a disturbing case emerging from Maharashtra’s Pune district, a woman government officer has accused her husband of secretly planting spy cameras in their bedroom and bathroom to record her private moments—allegedly using the footage to blackmail her over dowry demands.

The 31-year-old woman, a Class-2 officer in a state department, approached the Ambegaon police with explosive claims of domestic abuse, surveillance, and extortion. She alleged that her husband, also a government employee, along with his family, subjected her to sustained physical and mental harassment, demanding ₹1.5 lakh to pay off car loan installments.

"When she resisted the financial pressure, she was allegedly assaulted by her husband and relatives," said an investigating officer. The abuse reportedly escalated when she discovered hidden cameras installed in their bedroom and bathroom. According to the complaint, her husband threatened to leak the footage online if she failed to meet his dowry demand.

Police have booked the husband, his mother, three sisters, and two brothers-in-law under Sections 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A police investigation is underway, with the official stating, “We are treating the matter with utmost seriousness given the nature of the allegations.”
