The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced a massive door-to-door voter verification drive across 16 States and three Union Territories as part of Phase-III of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, covering more than 36 crore electors.

The latest voter list update exercise will involve nearly 4 lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who will visit homes to verify voter details and update electoral rolls ahead of future elections. The poll body said political parties will also participate through Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to ensure transparency during the process.

The Election Commission said the nationwide revision drive is being conducted alongside the ongoing Census house-listing exercise for better coordination on the ground.

The exercise will cover the entire country under Phase-III except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, where the schedule will be announced separately due to weather conditions and pending Census-related activities.

What should voters know about the latest electoral roll revision?

During the exercise, Booth Level Officers will conduct house-to-house verification to check voter details, update records and process claims or objections linked to electoral rolls.

The revision process is important because electoral rolls are used to determine voter eligibility during elections. The Election Commission urged voters and political parties to actively participate in the verification exercise.
