Big twist in Durgapur rape case as victim’s father calls Mamata Banerjee a “mother-like figure” and seeks her forgiveness.

Durgapur (West Bengal): Two days after lashing out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and saying the state was under “Aurangzeb’s rule,” the father of the Durgapur gang rape victim has now made an emotional appeal to Banerjee, calling her a “mother-like figure” and seeking her forgiveness.
He urged the Chief Minister to help secure justice for his daughter but reiterated his decision to take her back to Odisha once she recovers.
“Mamata Banerjee is like a mother to me. If I have said anything wrong, I ask her to forgive me. I will bow countless times at her feet, but I urge her to help my daughter get justice,” he told television channels on Wednesday.
Earlier this week, he had condemned Banerjee’s remark that “women should not venture out at night,” saying he no longer felt safe in West Bengal.
“It seems Bengal is under the rule of Aurangzeb. I want to take my daughter back to Odisha. Her life comes first, career later,” he had said on Monday. On Wednesday, he reiterated his demand for a CBI investigation.
“I have been demanding a CBI probe into this case. That would be good, but it depends on the state administration as well,” he said, adding that he no longer wants his daughter to remain in Bengal.
The second-year MBBS student from a private medical college in Durgapur was allegedly gang-raped on October 10 after stepping out with a male friend to buy food. Police have so far arrested six people, including the friend, triggering a political storm across West Bengal.
