Chennai: In a curious development, DMK leader and Rajya Sabha MP M M Abdullah responded in Tamil to a letter in Hindi from Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu. In his Tamil response, Abdullah made it clear that he could not understand a single word of Bittu’s note in Hindi. Abdullah shared the matter on his official X account.

Bittu’s letter was a response to Abdullah’s queries regarding the quality and hygiene of food on trains. However, Abdullah noted that the reply was in Hindi.

"Letters from the office of the Deputy Railway Minister are always in Hindi. I had previously informed the officials there that I do not understand Hindi and had requested the use of English as the medium of communication. But the letter was in Hindi. I have sent my response in a way that they can understand," the MP stated on his official X account.

Abdullah further requested Bittu, in Tamil, to communicate with him in English from now on.

The DMK had previously criticised the Central Government in 2022, accusing it of imposing Hindi.
