Congress leaders criticize Dhurandhar 2, alleging it serves as BJP political propaganda. Read the full analysis of the controversy and cinematic impact here.

Congress leaders have intensified criticism of the newly released film Dhurandhar 2 (Dhurandhar: The Revenge), accusing it of serving as a tool for the Bharatiya Janata Party's political propaganda ahead of elections by distorting facts on national security and communal harmony.
Congress leader Udit Raj told ANI, "We had read the review of the first part of Dhurandhar. It was entertaining, and there was nothing to influence the political atmosphere of the country. But the second part has been released at a time when the 5-state elections are about to be conducted. So, I feel there is a BJP-RSS agenda behind the timing of the release. Releasing it at the time of Eid is deliberate. They have complete control over the Censor Board. Anything is possible...They just want to win elections ruthlessly..."
Congress MP Tariq Anwar, speaking in Delhi, labeled the film a product of a "specific agenda" orchestrated by the ruling BJP. He objected to its portrayal of late gangster Atiq Ahmad as linked to Pakistan's ISI and terror organizations, calling it an attempt to malign opposition figures. Anwar urged viewers to approach such content critically, warning it fuels division rather than entertainment.
Samajwadi Party MP Rajiv Rai echoed the sentiments, branding Dhurandhar 2 as "fake propaganda" timed for electoral gains. Rai questioned the film's depiction of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and alleged cover-ups of past security failures under previous regimes. He demanded stricter oversight on cinematic content touching sensitive national issues.
Earlier in February, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram reacted to a scene in the first film implying his and father P Chidambaram's role in a fake currency scam involving Nashik presses. He dismissed it as a "mix of fact, fiction, and WhatsApp forwards," highlighting the film's blend of real events with unverified claims.
Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring R Madhavan and Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar 2 opened strongly with Rs 75 crore worldwide on day one despite preview cancellations and refunds. It draws from real operations like those of late Major Mohit Sharma, sparking family objections, plus criticism from Baloch groups and maulanas for promoting Hindu-Muslim divides.
