A 22-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars' worth of designer clothing from a high-end shop in Miami's Wynwood district over a period of several months.

According to investigators from the Miami Police Department (MPD), Dhir Patel, of Boynton Beach, repeatedly visited the store between 30 March and last Monday, posing as a customer and occasionally selling items to the business in exchange for cash.

Police allege that during these visits Patel would also steal clothing, concealing designer garments inside a bag he brought with him. Detectives said surveillance footage captured him selecting merchandise from around the shop before hiding items and leaving without paying for them.

The thefts only came to light after the store owner noticed that several expensive items were missing and reviewed CCTV footage.

Investigators initially estimated the value of the stolen goods at approximately $41,550. However, store owner Louis Negrich later told Local 10 News that the losses may be significantly higher.

"We originally started at $41,000. Since we've calculated it up, it's about $55,000 to $60,000 now," Negrich said.

He added that Patel had also made legitimate purchases from the store, which helped him avoid suspicion during his repeated visits.

An MPD arrest report stated that Patel "would walk throughout the store selecting merchandise", while detectives said CCTV footage showed him concealing clothing items inside a bag.

Officers arrested Patel on Saturday after he allegedly returned to the shop to sell more items. Authorities said he later made a confession, although details were redacted from the publicly released report.

"Just don't steal," Negrich said. "It's just as simple as that. Everything comes back to bite you."

Court records show Patel was released from custody after posting a $5,000 bond. He faces a charge of grand theft.
