New Delhi is preparing to host the expanded BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, bringing together key global figures, partner nations, and leaders of major international institutions.

High-Profile Attendees

The two-day summit will convene world leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Representatives from member nations, partner countries (such as Kazakhstan and Malaysia), and invited global figures—including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and heads of the WTO, WHO, and New Development Bank—will also attend.

Ground & Hospitality Measures

  • Hotel Security: Major hotels across the capital are enforcing strict access protocols, dedicated delegation zones, and custom hospitality plans.

  • Traffic Management: Extensive barricading and traffic re-routing will manage convoy movements from late Thursday through Friday morning as delegations arrive.

Strict Airspace & Security Protocols

Special airspace regulations will be enforced from 1:30 AM UTC on September 11 until 5:30 PM UTC on September 13:

  • Airports Exclusion Zone: Non-scheduled take-offs and landings are prohibited within a 300-km radius of Delhi. Safdarjung Airport and Rohini Helipad will close, with limited exceptions for emergency, military, or state VIP operations.

  • Commercial Flights: Commercial airlines and pre-approved summit flights may operate but face strict altitude restrictions—maintaining Flight Level 290 (FL290) until at least 200 km from Delhi during descent or ascent.

  • Special Clearances: Unlisted flights require explicit prior approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

India aims to use its presidency to advance cooperation across the Global South and address pressingly relevant global economic and political issues.
