New Delhi: The Delhi government on Sunday rolled out 500 new electric buses, taking the total EV fleet of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to 4,000, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced.

Speaking at the launch event, attended by BJP president Nitin Nabin, the chief minister said the move would significantly strengthen public transport connectivity while helping to reduce air pollution in Delhi.

“This step will not only boost transportation across the city but will also contribute to cleaner air,” Gupta said. She added that by 2028, the DTC aims to expand its overall bus fleet to 14,000.

“These electric buses are air-conditioned, low-floor and equipped with panic buttons and other modern safety features, improving both comfort and accessibility,” she said.

Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said that three new inter-state bus services between Delhi and Panipat have also been launched.

The chief minister said the Delhi government is continuously working to improve the transport sector, with a focus on last-mile connectivity. “We have recently signed an MoU with Bharat Taxi, and soon a new EV policy and e-rickshaw policy will also be introduced,” she said.
