New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing them of political hypocrisy and internal instability. Taking a swipe at the opposition, she said, "They should look after their party; there are many people who want to leave... They are worried that when the CAG report will be tabled in the House, records of a lot of people would be exposed."
Gupta’s remarks come a day after she was sworn in as chief minister, marking a major political shift in the capital. Responding to criticism from the opposition over the newly formed government’s actions, she dismissed their allegations, stating that the BJP-led administration had already taken significant decisions within a day of assuming office.
"The Congress ruled for 15 years and the AAP ruled for 13. Instead of looking at what they did, how can they raise questions on one day of ours?" she said, defending her government's immediate actions.
Gupta highlighted the swift decisions taken by her cabinet, saying, "We had a cabinet meeting on day one, immediately after taking the oath, and we cleared the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which was blocked by AAP. We gave a benefit of Rs. 10 lakhs to the people of Delhi on the first day. They don't have any right to question us."
She also underscored the BJP’s commitment to Delhi’s development, asserting, "We will worry about Delhi now, and Delhi will get its rights under the leadership of PM Modi."
Shortly after taking the oath on Thursday, Gupta chaired her first cabinet meeting and announced two key decisions—the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme with a Rs 5 lakh top-up and the tabling of 14 pending Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the first Assembly session. The BJP had previously criticised the AAP government for not implementing the Centre’s flagship health scheme.
Gupta also reiterated her administration’s focus on environmental concerns, pledging to clean the Yamuna. "The resolution of making the Yamuna clean will be the priority of the Delhi government," she said after attending an evening Aarti on the riverbank.
Pollution in the Yamuna had been a central issue in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, with rival parties trading blame over environmental mismanagement, encroachments, and flood control failures. The BJP had accused AAP of neglecting its promise to clean the river, making it a focal point of its campaign.
