New Delhi: BJP candidate from the New Delhi constituency, Parvesh Verma, expressed confidence in his party’s victory as he cast his vote in the Delhi Assembly elections on Wednesday. Verma, accompanied by his family, voted at a polling booth in Nirman Bhawan and urged people to turn out in large numbers.

“This is voting for the golden future of our Delhi. I appeal to everyone to cast their vote and support Modi ji’s vision,” Verma said. Taking a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he claimed that the ruling party would question the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) once the BJP secures power.

“The people have now recognized the lies. The response we are getting from Delhi indicates that voters are eager to bring in a BJP government. On February 8, the lotus will bloom,” he added, referring to the BJP’s election symbol.

Polling began at 7:00 am and will continue till 6:00 pm across all 70 assembly seats in the national capital, with tight security in place. High-stakes battles are unfolding in key constituencies like New Delhi and Jangpura. The New Delhi seat is witnessing a high-profile contest between former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal (AAP), Parvesh Verma (BJP), and Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit, the son of former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit.

AAP, which currently holds over 60 of the 70 seats, is seeking re-election based on its past performance, while the BJP is banking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity to make inroads. A total of 699 candidates are in the fray, with 1.56 crore registered voters, including 2.39 lakh first-time voters and over 1 lakh elderly voters.
