Jaipur: Five people from Madhya Pradesh lost their lives in a devastating road accident near Chaksu in Jaipur district after their car rammed into a trailer on the Kota–Jaipur National Highway (NH-52) early Saturday morning, police said.

The crash took place around 5:30 am near Tigaria Mod. According to Chaksu Police Station SHO Manohar Lal Meghwal, the car was headed towards Jaipur when the driver is suspected to have dozed off, causing the vehicle to plough into a moving trailer ahead.

The impact left the car completely mangled, trapping the occupants inside the wreckage. Four victims, including a woman, died at the scene. A young man who sustained critical injuries succumbed while being rushed to hospital.

Police identified the deceased as Reshma Shrivastava, wife of Akhilesh Shrivastava; Piyush Rai, son of Rajesh Rai; Rajak Rahul, son of Bablu Rajak; and driver Anurag. One victim remains unidentified. Rajak Rahul was a resident of Jabalpur.

The collision triggered a significant traffic jam along NH-52, with vehicles backed up for several kilometres. Local police and emergency response teams arrived shortly after receiving the alert and launched rescue and clearance operations.

The damaged car and trailer were removed using a crane, after which traffic movement was restored. The bodies have been kept at the mortuary of Chaksu Sub-District Hospital.

Postmortem examinations will be conducted once family members arrive. Investigation Officer Jai Singh from the Accident Police Station (Second) confirmed that relatives of the victims have been informed. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact cause of the crash.
