As thousands of fans gear up to attend Coldplay's much-anticipated concerts on January 25 and 26 the Western Railway has two special train services between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to accommodate the fans commute. With skyrocketing airfares and fully booked regular trains, these services are expected to ease the travel burden for thousands of fans eager to attend the iconic British band’s performances.
Special trains and routes for concerts
The special trains will depart from Bandra Terminus at 6.15 am and reach Ahmedabad at 2.00 pm on January 25 and 1.00 pm on January 26. For the return journey, trains will leave Ahmedabad at 1.40 am on January 26 and 27, arriving at Bandra Terminus by 8.40 am and 8.30 am, respectively. These trains will halt at Borivali, Vapi, Udhna, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, and Geratpur in both directions.
While categorized as "winter specials" by the Railway Board, officials confirmed that the decision to operate these services was driven by the high demand from fans attending Coldplay’s concerts at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. However, officials cautioned that these trains might still fall short in meeting the demand, given the band’s popularity and past travel trends during events like the Cricket World Cup.
Suburban locals for Navi Mumbai concerts
For the concerts in Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on January 18, 19, and 21, organizers have booked Full Tariff Rate (FTR) suburban trains to facilitate smooth travel for attendees. These trains will operate between Goregaon and Nerul, with limited halts at Bandra, Andheri, Wadala Road, Chembur, and Jainagar stations.
- January 18 and 19: Departure from Goregaon at 2.00 pm, arrival in Nerul at 3.23 pm; return at 11.04 pm, reaching Goregaon by 12.30 am.
- January 21: Departure from Goregaon at 2.50 pm, arrival in Nerul at 6.18 pm; return at 10.50 pm, reaching Goregaon by 12.15 am.
Tickets for the special trains are available on BookMyShow. However, it remains unclear whether the trains are reserved exclusively for concert ticket holders or open to the general public.
