Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has issued a strong warning to those involved in the Nagpur communal violence, declaring that rioters will be made to pay for damages or risk losing their property. He also confirmed that bulldozer action could be taken if necessary. Meanwhile, police have identified 68 social media posts that allegedly spread misinformation, fueling the unrest.

Amid ongoing police action following Monday’s violence in Nagpur, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has reaffirmed that strict measures will be taken against those responsible. After reviewing the situation with senior police officials, Fadnavis stated:

"Whatever damage has happened will be recovered from the rioters. If they do not pay, their property will be sold for recovery. Wherever required, bulldozers will also be used."

The Maharashtra Police Cyber Cell has intensified its crackdown on misinformation, identifying 68 social media posts that allegedly incited tensions. Law enforcement is now tracking individuals behind these posts, with potential arrests expected. Officials have cautioned the public against spreading unverified claims, reinforcing that no religious text was desecrated during the protest that triggered the violence.

Despite the unrest, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Nagpur remains unaffected, with Fadnavis confirming that all security measures are in place to ensure a smooth event.

The Maharashtra government’s firm stance comes as law enforcement continues to arrest rioters, with over 100 individuals already in custody. Authorities are also considering freezing bank accounts and seizing assets of those found guilty of inciting or participating in the violence.

The Nagpur clashes, sparked by unverified social media claims regarding Aurangzeb’s tomb, have once again highlighted the dangers of misinformation and communal tensions. With ongoing police action and a government crackdown on rumour-mongers, authorities are working to restore order and prevent further escalation.
