New Delhi: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) placed three key demands before Union Health Minister JP Nadda during a meeting with its representatives on Monday, as protests over the NEET-UG controversy and activist Sonam Wangchuk’s detention intensified in Delhi.

CJP representatives Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das met Nadda at his residence after security personnel stopped protesters marching towards Parliament during the ongoing agitation. According to Ranka, the Union minister sought time to discuss the demands with the BJP leadership.

The three demands submitted by the CJP were:

1. Immediate release of Sonam Wangchuk

The first demand raised by the group was the release of climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, who has been at the centre of the ongoing protest. The CJP has accused authorities of acting against Wangchuk during his hunger strike, while the issue has become one of the major points of the agitation.

2. Resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan

The CJP also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged failures related to examination management, including the NEET-UG controversy. The demand for accountability in the education system has remained one of the central issues behind the protests.

3. ₹1 crore compensation for families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide

The third demand was financial compensation of ₹1 crore for families of NEET-UG aspirants who died by suicide. The CJP said the compensation should be provided as recognition of the distress faced by students affected by examination-related issues.

What happened during the meeting with JP Nadda?

Sharing an update on social media, CJP representative Ashutosh Ranka said that he and Saurav Das remained at Nadda’s residence after the meeting and that the minister had sought time to consult with the government leadership on their demands.

Das later said that the representatives submitted a written letter outlining their demands and that Nadda assured them he would discuss the matter internally.

Why did CJP leaders meet Nadda?

The meeting came after a day of heightened tension in Delhi, where CJP supporters attempted to march towards Parliament from the Jantar Mantar area. Police deployed heavy security arrangements around central Delhi amid restrictions on protests near Parliament during the Monsoon Session.

Earlier, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was reportedly picked up by Delhi Police amid the protests, after which Ranka and Das met the Union minister.

The CJP-led agitation has focused on alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and accountability in the education system, with Wangchuk’s hunger strike adding momentum to the protests.

What happens next?

The CJP representatives said they were awaiting a response from the government after Nadda’s assurance that the demands would be discussed with the leadership. Any further decision from the government could determine the next course of action by the protesters.
