Gonda: Four passengers have died and several others were injured after the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh train derailed in the Gonda-Mankapur section on Thursday afternoon in Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred near Pikaura, between Gonda and Jhilahi, with eight coaches reported to have derailed. It is feared that there will be more casualties.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak told PTI that four people were killed in the accident in the state's Gonda district.
Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar reported that 20 people were injured in the accident. A medical team consisting of 40 members and 15 ambulances are currently at the scene, with additional medical teams and ambulances en route, he stated.
Senior railway officials and local administration authorities are present to supervise the rescue operations.
The train was en route from Chandigarh, a city in northern India, to Dibrugarh in northeastern Assam when the derailment occurred near Gonda. Some coaches overturned during the incident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
