Bulandshahr: A shocking incident has come to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, where a newborn baby boy died after his head was allegedly severed during a forced home delivery by an ASHA worker and a midwife (trained healthcare professional), police said on Tuesday.
According to the complaint filed by the baby’s father, Jhamman, his pregnant wife, Rajkumari, went into labour around 9 am on January 25 at their home in Rutha village. Instead of calling a government ambulance or taking her to a hospital, the village ASHA worker allegedly summoned a local midwife from Jahangirabad.
Police said the two women attempted to conduct the delivery at home despite complications. When the process failed, they reportedly claimed the baby was in a breech position and continued trying, during which the newborn’s neck was allegedly severed. The baby’s body was delivered while the head remained inside the womb, leaving the mother in critical condition.
The accused allegedly fled the spot after the incident, abandoning the woman. She was later rushed to a hospital in Bulandshahr and then referred to Meerut, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Jahangirabad SHO Sanjesh Kumar said a case has been registered against the ASHA worker and the midwife, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them.
