Shillong: In a coordinated operation on August 10, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, working together with Meghalaya Police, detained seven Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian facilitators at a border checkpoint.

This action comes as part of an increased security measure due to ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, said BSF in a statement released on Sunday.

The BSF has implemented a multi-layered security strategy along the Indo-Bangladesh border to address potential threats.

The detained individuals, including the Bangladeshi migrants and their Indian accomplices, have been handed over to the appropriate police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings. Additionally, the BSF recently apprehended two smugglers, seizing cattle and Phensedyl bottles during operations in West Bengal.

In separate operations, BSF troops also arrested 11 Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally cross into India—two each from the Bengal and Tripura borders, and seven from the Meghalaya-Bangladesh border. The recent intensified operations reflect BSF's ongoing vigilance and commitment to securing the international boundary. (Agencies)
