New Delhi: A fresh wave of bomb threats sent via email to over 45 schools and three colleges across Delhi on Friday caused widespread panic among students, parents and staff. This marks the fourth such incident in the capital within a week, raising serious concerns over safety protocols and emergency preparedness.
Emergency response units including Delhi Police, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog teams and fire service personnel were immediately deployed to the institutions after reports of the threats started pouring in.
A senior police official confirmed that Indraprastha (IP) College for Women, Hindu College and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), all located in north Delhi, were among the colleges to receive threatening emails.
Several schools across Dwarka district, including St Thomas School, GD Goenka School, DIS Edge School, Modern International School, Dwarka International School and La Petite Montessori, alerted police after receiving similar threats. Rescue and evacuation efforts were swiftly initiated, authorities said.
According to the police, one of the emails stated, “Hello. I am writing to let you know that I have placed several explosive devices (Trinitrotoluene) within school classrooms. The explosives are skillfully hidden in black plastic bags.”
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said that nothing suspicious was recovered from the locations checked so far.
Schools in Rohini were also forced to evacuate after institutions such as MRG School (Sector 3), Delhi Public School, Sovereign Public School, Heritage Public School (Sector 24), Delhi International Public School (Sector 9), Abhinav Public School (Sector 3) and another Heritage School reported similar threats.
Pitampura’s Maxfort Junior School and Guru Nanak School, along with Richmond School and Doon Public School in Paschim Vihar were also impacted by the scare.
In South Delhi and other parts of the city, schools such as Summerfield International School, Bharti Public School (Swasthya Vihar), Hamdard Public School (Sangam Vihar), St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School (Raj Niwas Marg), North Delhi Public School (Shalimar Bagh), New Delhi Public School (Vikaspuri), Mira Nursery School (Janakpuri), Prudence School, The Indian School (Sadiq Nagar), Delhi Public School (Mathura Road) and Mater Dei School (Tilak Lane) were among those targeted.
Additional institutions receiving similar threats included Delhi Jain Public School (Palam), Junior Delhi School, Delhi Public Schools in R K Puram, East of Kailash, and Vasant Vihar, The British School (Chanakyapuri), Delhi City School (Bawana), Faith Academy (Prasad Nagar), Amity International School (Saket), Cambridge Foundation School (Rajouri Garden), Big Feather International School and Kulachi Hansraj Model School (Ashok Vihar).
Police have launched a full-scale investigation, and cybercrime teams are currently working to trace the origin of the threatening emails.
Former Delhi Education Minister Atishi took to social media to criticise the BJP over the recurring threats.
The incident comes just a day after various security agencies carried out mock drills across 10 locations in the city to evaluate emergency response readiness.
