According to astronomers, the Blue Moon will rise in the eastern sky shortly after sunset on May 31 and can be seen with the naked eye, weather permitting. The event marks the second full moon to occur within the same calendar month, making it the only calendrical Blue Moon of 2026.

What is a Blue Moon and why is it rare?

A Blue Moon occurs when two full moons fall within a single calendar month. Since the Moon's cycle lasts about 29.5 days, it does not perfectly match the length of most months, creating this rare alignment every few years.
