Railways tighten checks in AC coaches as theft of blankets and pillows costs up to ₹1 crore annually.

Chennai: Railway officials have tightened monitoring in AC coaches after repeated thefts of blankets, bed sheets and pillows. The move comes in response to reports of items vanishing from trains running through states like Delhi and Odisha.
Videos circulating on social media recently showed passengers walking off trains carrying away railway-provided blankets and pillows.
Following this, officials have been instructed to check berths when travellers disembark to ensure that bedding items are not taken away.
According to authorities, these losses cost the Railways between ₹80 lakh and ₹1 crore every year, as blankets and pillows continue to disappear from AC coaches.
