Counting of votes for the Nagaon–Batadraba Assembly constituency in Assam concluded on Monday as part of the 2026 Assam Assembly election results declared across all 126 constituencies. The counting process, which was conducted under tight security arrangements, confirmed a decisive victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the newly formed seat.
BJP candidate Rupak Sarmah won the Nagaon–Batadraba constituency, defeating Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Durlav Chamuah by a margin of 61,984 votes. With this result, the ruling party secured a strong hold in one of Assam’s recently carved Assembly constituencies.
Nagaon–Batadraba is a newly created Assembly seat formed during the 2023 delimitation exercise. It is located in Assam’s Nagaon district in central Assam and falls under the Nowgong Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency comprises a mix of rural and semi-urban populations.
The seat also includes the culturally significant Batadraba region, known for the Sri Sri Batadraba Than, an important Vaishnavite pilgrimage and heritage site in Assam.

In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections overall, the BJP emerged as the largest party with 60 seats, followed by Congress with 29 seats, AIUDF with 16, AGP with 9, UPPL with 6, CPI(M) with 1, and others with 5.
Electoral outlook
The 2026 Assam Assembly elections are expected to be a key test for the BJP-led government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Congress-AIUDF combine is also aiming to consolidate opposition votes across constituencies.
