Nita Ambani had once said she was a “dog mother”

Happy, a golden retriever adored by the Ambani family, passed away on April 30. Known not just as a pet but as a cherished member of India’s most prominent business family, Happy had become a familiar face to many after featuring in the grand pre-wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant.
Why was Happy so well-known?
Happy had captured public affection after appearing in videos and family portraits shared during the high-profile Ambani-Merchant wedding festivities. Dressed in a pink Banarasi silk brocade jacket created by Ahmedabad-based Pannkh Designer Pet Wear, Happy became a social media sensation. He had also played a surprise role as the ring-bearer during the engagement ceremony.
How did the Ambani family react?
The family expressed their grief in a heartfelt tribute shared through social media handles such as Viral Bhayani and Ambani Update. A prayer meet was held, where a floral poster of Happy was displayed. In an emotional note, the family described him as more than a pet—he was a loyal companion, a source of comfort, and a part of the family. His memory, they said, would live on in their hearts.
What made Happy special to the Ambanis?
Anant Ambani, who is deeply passionate about animal welfare, had a close bond with Happy. The golden retriever was often seen beside him during public appearances and private celebrations. Nita Ambani had once said she was a “dog mother” and mentioned that Anant rescues animals—keeping nearly 5,000 stray dogs—while Happy held a special place as her personal pet.
Happy’s presence extended beyond the Ambani household, symbolising the family's deep affection for animals. His joyful moments, captured in video compilations, continue to circulate online, evoking fond memories among fans. As tributes pour in, the golden retriever is remembered for the warmth and joy he brought into one of India’s most-watched families.
