A Bangladeshi man and a woman were detained in Hooghly’s Dankuni area after police busted an alleged adult-film racket operating from a rented flat. Investigators are now probing cross-border links and possible online exploitation.

A Bangladeshi man and a woman were arrested from Dankuni in West Bengal’s Hooghly district for allegedly producing adult films and selling them to illegal pornography websites, police said on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Dankuni police station raided a flat in the Mallikpara locality and apprehended the duo while they were reportedly in the middle of filming explicit content.
The man, identified as Russell Sikdar, was produced before the Serampore court on Monday and sent to 10 days’ police custody. The woman accompanying him has been moved to a shelter home, officials said.
Investigators are examining whether the woman is also a Bangladeshi national and the nature of her association with Sikdar. Police sources revealed that Sikdar had rented the flat and was living with her.
“They were allegedly producing explicit videos and selling them online at high prices,” an officer said. Authorities are also verifying Sikdar’s mode of entry into India and probing if he was involved in other illegal activities.
Local municipal representatives claimed no knowledge of any Bangladeshi national renting property in the area and called for stricter tenant verification procedures. The investigation is ongoing, officials added.
