New Delhi: The Delhi Police detained three leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka from a flight after it landed in New Delhi on Saturday, according to party claims and police sources.

The leaders were reportedly detained while they were still onboard the aircraft. Police sources said the three would be kept separately.

In a statement, the CJP condemned the alleged detentions, claiming that the action was part of a pre-planned move to prevent its leaders from reaching the venue of their proposed protest. The party also alleged that the move violated the leaders’ rights.

The CJP described the action as a violation of the leaders’ freedom of movement and demanded their immediate and unconditional release.

Before leaving Mumbai for the national capital, Dipke had alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “scared of the youth” and accused the Centre of “waging a war against its own people”, claiming that the country was witnessing emergency-like conditions.

The protest, scheduled to be held at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, seeks the removal of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over concerns surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Questioning the security arrangements and restrictions imposed ahead of the demonstration, Dipke alleged that disruptions to transport services and the deployment of security personnel reflected the government's fear of public protests.
