New Delhi: Chaos erupted in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday as Speaker Vijender Gupta expelled 12 AAP MLAs, including Leader of Opposition Atishi, for disrupting Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s address with slogans. The expulsions came amid escalating tensions between AAP and BJP over allegations of disrespecting B.R. Ambedkar.

Among the expelled MLAs were Atishi, Gopal Rai, Veer Singh Dhingan, Mukesh Ahlawat, Chaudhary Zubair Ahmed, Anil Jha, Vishesh Ravi, and Jarnail Singh.

Ambedkar portrait controversy sparks outrage

Addressing a press conference after her expulsion, Atishi accused the BJP of removing B.R. Ambedkar’s portrait from the Delhi Chief Minister’s office, calling it an insult to India’s Constitution and its architect.

"The BJP has shown its true colours by removing Babasaheb Ambedkar's portrait. Does it believe Modi can replace Babasaheb?" Atishi questioned, alleging that portraits of Ambedkar were removed from both the Delhi Secretariat and the Assembly by the BJP-led administration.

AAP leaders have condemned the move, while BJP has dismissed the allegations, calling them an attempt to divert attention from corruption charges against AAP.
