Thane: At least 11 people were killed and three others injured in a devastating road accident near Titwala in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Monday morning. The incident occurred near the Rayta Bridge when a Maruti Eeco vehicle carrying passengers collided head-on with a ready-mix concrete truck.

Police said that the Eeco was travelling from Murbad towards Kalyan when the crash took place. The impact of the collision was extremely severe, leaving the vehicle completely mangled and trapping several passengers inside.

Residents and Titwala police personnel rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and launched a rescue operation.

Victims were pulled out of the wreckage and rushed to nearby hospitals. Doctors declared several passengers dead on arrival, while at least three injured persons are currently undergoing treatment.

Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding or possible driver error could have led to the accident, though the exact cause is yet to be determined. Police have registered a case and initiated a detailed investigation.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and reckless driving on busy routes in the Thane district.
