Thrissur: In a compassionate move, a lady came forward to help her colleague’s wife, who tested positive for COVID while she was about to give birth.
Pottor Kozhikunnu native Adv. Sofia became the pillar of strength for her colleague Adv. Zulfikar Ali and his wife Safna during the tough time. Sofia and Zulfikar are lawyers at district court in Ayyanthole.
Varandarappilly native Adv Zulfikar Ali, wife Safna and their four children had tested positive for COVID. Safna was shifted to the COVID ward in medical college as her due date was nearing. Since Safna was COVID positive, her relatives could not stay with her at the time of delivery.
With this, Adv Sofia informed Zulfikar that she is ready to take care of Safna. She reached hospital as soon as Safna was taken for caesarean surgery. Sofia also gave a consent letter expressing willingness to take care of the COVID positive woman. She did not use any extra protective gear other than a mask.
Safna turned COVID negative two days after the delivery. Sofia took care of Safna and the baby for five days. However, Safna’s baby and Sofia did not get infected with COVID. Sofia had contested the recent local body election as a UDF candidate, but was defeated for 5 votes.
When Safna was admitted in the COVID ward, she was helped by a woman identified as Pavaratty native Farhadh, who was a total stranger to Safna. While naming the newborn, Safna and Zulfikar did not have any confusion. They named the baby ‘Sofia Farhadh’ combining the names of both women who helped them during the tough times.
