Man fails Xth, XIIth but tops college studies; Read this auto driver's unbeatable story
Thrissur: Abhilash, an autorickshaw driver, was asked by his neighbour to get a degree application form from Kerala Varma College for his daughter. But as the girl did not pass Plus Two, the neighbour gave back the application form to Abhilash. For fun, he filled his details and applied for the course. That was a turning point in his life.
Though Abhilash failed in class 10 and 12 before, he ended up scoring 88 percent in BA Philosophy and became college topper in the subject in 2014. He also won Prof Sankaran Nambiar award and Shyam Memorial topper endowment. Later, he also completed BEd with 100 percent attendance and first class score by managing studies during day and driving auto at night.
Currently, he runs auto in Thaikkattussery. He was working as a teacher in parallel college. But the institution was closed during the COVID times and Abhilash became a full-time auto driver. He was elected to Nadathara panchayat in the previous local body election.
The 32-year-old has played several roles in his life. After he failed in class 10, he went for construction work. He failed in Plus Two also and became a porter. He completed Plus Two via Open School scheme at the age of 22. Then Abhilash completed civil engineering diploma from ITC.
As he had no other means of income, he became an auto driver. Apart from this, he has been a folk singer, instrument artist, temple priest, football player, bus cleaner, tuition teacher and crane operator in different phases of life.
Abhilash is son of Thrissur Nadathara native late Karappan and Valliyamma. His father passed away when he was doing degree. At present, he is studying PGDCA as part time course in a training centre at Chiyyaram in Thrissur.
