Brushing aside gender norms, two women from Kottayam take up painting job to support families
Kottayam: Brushing aside gender norms, two women from Peruva near Kaduthuruthy in Kottayam have been taken up painting works, a sector dominated by men. The duo, Radhu (33) and Sinimol (36), have no inhibition and fear in climbing the roof top or in standing on top of ladder to paint houses or buildings.
Radhu has been working as painter for a decade, while Sinimol made her entry last year after meeting Radhu. Both took up this job as more earnings can be made from this job, compared to other jobs. The duo is also able to support their families from the income earned.
Aapart from the painting job, the duo has been doing other types of jobs like polishing work, interior designing work, landscaping and machine based house-cleaning.
Radhu is married to Santhosh and has two children Aiswarya and Adhithyan. Sinimol is married to Siju and has two children Sharlet and Shanet Rose.
