11-yr-old Malayali boy's 1st novel bestseller on Amazon; becomes India's youngest bestselling author
Thrissur: It happened during the lockdown in 2020. Both his parents were engaged in work at home. Class 5 student Joshua started writing a story to get rid of the boredom due to the tedious online classes and idleness after being confined to his house.
When Joshua completed 40 pages, he told his mom that he was writing a short story. His mom corrected him saying that it was a novel and not a short story. His novel was completed within 6 months.
‘Murder at the Leaky Barrel’, Joshua’s first English novel was released in the Kindle E-book section of Amazon on July 4. It became a bestseller that very day. Joshua became the youngest Indian to have written a bestselling novel. The novel was published by Booksthakam, a Malayali Writers Association.
The novel’s premise revolves around the murder at Dublin in Ireland in 1532 and the vengeance and the investigations that happen nearly five centuries later. Joshua is a class 6 student at Ryan International School in Pune.
He is the son of Associate Professor of Pune IISER, Bejoy Thomas and writer Suma Sunny. Bejoy is a Kottayam native and Suma hails from Venthala near Mala.
