Kozhikode, Kerala: In an important development in the Kozhikode wife murder case, a medical examination has confirmed that Yasar, the man accused of stabbing his wife to death in Engapuzha, was not under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack. The test, conducted at Kozhikode Beach Hospital, found no traces of intoxicants in his system. Police stated that he committed the crime in full consciousness.
Allegations of drug addiction refuted
Earlier, Yasar’s relatives had alleged that he was a drug addict. Following this, police took him into custody and handed him over to the Thamarassery police, who subsequently subjected him to a medical examination. The revelation of the test results came after this process.
With no traces of drugs detected, investigators now suspect that the crime was carefully premeditated. It is believed that Yasar had purchased a new knife specifically for the act.
Arrest and crime details
Yasar (26), who fled the scene after the alleged murder, was arrested at midnight. He had allegedly stabbed his wife, Shibila (24), daughter of Abdurahman and Haseena from Kakkad. Before escaping in a car, he also attacked Shibila’s parents, leaving them injured.
The police later apprehended him from the parking area of Kozhikode Medical College. According to reports, Yasar used a knife concealed in his hand to fatally stab Shibila. When her parents tried to intervene, he attacked them as well.
Parents injured
Shibila’s father, Abdurahman, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, while her mother, Haseena, is being treated at Thamarassery Taluk Hospital. All three were initially admitted to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital before being shifted to Kozhikode Medical College, but doctors were unable to save Shibila’s life.
Shibila and Yasar had married against her family’s wishes. Relatives claimed Yasar had been addicted to drugs before their marriage, which was the main reason for their opposition. Due to his substance abuse and alleged abusive behaviour, Shibila left him and returned to her parental home a month ago.
Even after their separation, Yasar allegedly continued harassing her through phone calls and social media. This led Shibila’s family to file a complaint at Thamarassery police station on February 28. However, the case was settled through mediation.
Revenge act before murder
The family had also sought police assistance in retrieving Shibila’s belongings, including her and her daughter’s clothes, from their rented home in Adivaram. In an act of revenge, Yasar reportedly gathered her clothes, set them on fire, and shared videos of the act on WhatsApp.
