Palakkad: Three activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) were arrested by the police for threatening teachers who organized a Christmas celebration at the Government UP School in Nalleppilly.
The accused has been remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, the teachers clarified that the event was not a major celebration and that the children only arrived dressed in Christmas-themed attire. Furthermore, no cake-cutting or elaborate celebration took place in the school.
According to the complaint, three VHP activists entered the school and threatened the teachers. They questioned whether the teachers would have organized such a celebration if it had been Krishna Jayanti, and whether similar celebrations had been held in the past. The activists also questioned why the children were made to wear such clothes and why they were compelled to attend the event.
The teachers stated that they had never seen the individuals before and did not recognize them. Following the threats, the headmistress of the school filed a police complaint.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the suspects were VHP activists: K. Anil Kumar, Sushasanan, and Velayudhan. Anil Kumar is the district secretary of VHP, Sushasanan is a coordinator of the Bajrang Dal district, and Velayudhan is the president of the VHP’s local committee.
The arrested individuals face charges under non-bailable sections, including creating religious discord, trespassing, and others.
