A 25-year-old man was arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain after he was allegedly caught on CCTV stealing a woman’s undergarments from outside her house in broad daylight, police said.

The accused, identified as Amit Malviya, was tracked down after the victim’s family reviewed security camera footage that showed him removing clothes from a drying line and hiding them in his pocket.

The incident took place in the Dhanachha Bhawan area under the jurisdiction of Chimanganj Mandi police station.

According to police, the case came to light after a woman noticed that some of her undergarments, which had been left outside the house to dry, had gone missing.

Suspecting that the clothes may have been stolen, the woman’s family checked CCTV cameras installed in the area.

While reviewing the footage, they allegedly spotted a young man approaching the house, removing the garments from the clothesline, and slipping them into his jeans pocket before walking away.

The family immediately reported the matter to the Chimanganj Mandi police and handed over the CCTV footage as evidence.

Based on the visuals, police began an investigation and soon identified the suspect as Amit Malviya, a 25-year-old resident of the same locality. Officers traced his whereabouts and arrested him shortly after the complaint was filed.

During questioning, Malviya reportedly made a startling confession. According to police sources, the accused claimed he had developed a one-sided affection for the woman living in the house.

He allegedly told investigators that he had been obsessed with her for some time and had even tattooed her name on his chest.

Officials said the CCTV footage clearly showed the accused committing the act in broad daylight, which played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending him quickly.

Police added that the incident has raised concerns among residents in the neighbourhood, many of whom were shocked by the nature of the alleged crime.

Authorities have registered a case against the accused and further investigation is currently underway to determine whether he was involved in similar incidents in the area. Police said appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
